?????????????The Final Four converges on Dallas-Fort Worth this weekend. With major sporting events often comes an increase in drunk driving.

If you plan to be out and about this weekend, take a few minutes to remind yourself how to avoid being a victim of drunk driving.

Choose a designated driver. If you’re going to the games, a watch party or another Final Four event and you plan to consume alcohol, plan ahead and select a designated driver or alternative form of transportation. Before you get to the party, know exactly how you will get home. If you’re hosting a party and serving alcohol, be sure to provide plenty of nonalcoholic drink options for the designated drivers.

Avoid late night driving. Even if it means leaving the watch party or pre or post game celebration early, if you get home safely, it’s worth it. Leaving the game or watch party early will help you avoid the rush of drivers as soon as the game ends.

Drive in the right lane. Sticking to the right lane can save your life from drunk drivers, and wrong-way drivers alike. Often times drunk drivers drift out of their lane or into oncoming traffic. The further you are to the right of the road, the better your chances of avoiding being sideswiped or hit head-on by a drunk driver.

Watch for drunk drivers on the road and notify law enforcement. If you notice another car weaving in and out of lanes, driving on areas not designated as roadways, making wide turns or abrupt changes in speed or driving into opposing traffic, notify law enforcement immediately.

Don’t let the fear of becoming a victim of drunk driving keep enjoying the fun of Final Four weekend. Just be sure to plan ahead and make smart choices to keep yourself and others safe.
